As mentioned on the previous page, Mirafit FBCx® was developed at Wayne State University. Dr. Joseph Artis and Dr. Catherine Jen formed a company which then acquired the rights to the Mirafit FBCx technology. The technology has now been patented in the United States and a number of other countries.
Alpha-dextrin, the key ingredient of FBCx (Fat Binding Complex), is an all natural, dietary fiber derived from corn starch. It is not an impure and consequently variable extract, but rather an almost pure alpha-dextrin (typical food grades are 98+% pure).
FBCx works by a very unique mechanism wherein it grabs and surrounds the fats you consume before the stomach acids can break them down. As the fat is released from food in the stomach, FBCx forms a very stable complex with it. This complex passes through the gastrointestinal tract intact (a very important feature of Mirafit) and out of your body. Each tablet (1 gram) of FBCx can absorb 9 grams of dietary fat – that’s 81 calories.
Because the fat never gets a chance to even break down, you don’t get the rather unpleasant side effects that many people have had with prescription drugs containing Sibutramine or Orlistat, or the over-the-counter ALLI.
